The Sr.
Estimator is responsible for accurately assessing project costs by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and other relevant documents, while also collaborating with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive bids, ensuring the successful and profitable execution of construction projects.
This role plays a crucial part in helping the general contractor make informed financial decisions and secure contracts for construction endeavors.

Description

  1. Project Assessment:
    Analyze project requirements, including blueprints, specifications, and scope documents, to determine the materials, labor, and equipment needed for construction.

  2. Cost Estimation:
    Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates, factoring in materials, labor, subcontractor bids, equipment, permits, and other expenses to determine project budgets.

  3. Bid Solicitation:
    Solicit competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers, negotiate pricing, and assess their qualifications to ensure the best value for the project.

  4. Quantity Takeoff:
    Perform quantity takeoffs for materials and labor, considering construction methods, site conditions, and other variables that may impact costs.

  5. Cost Analysis:
    Analyze historical cost data and industry trends to validate cost estimates and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.

  6. Value Engineering:
    Collaborate with project teams to propose cost-effective alternatives without compromising quality or safety.

  7. Budget Management:
    Monitor project budgets throughout the construction process, track expenses, and provide regular cost updates to stakeholders.

  8. Risk Assessment:
    Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties that may affect project costs and develop strategies to mitigate them.

  9. Documentation:
    Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bids, and correspondence with subcontractors and suppliers.

  10. Client Communication:
    Present cost estimates and project budgets to clients, addressing their questions and concerns, and maintaining clear and professional communication throughout the project.

  11. Tender Submissions:
    Prepare and submit competitive bids to potential clients and participate in bid review meetings.

  12. Continuous Learning:
    Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and construction methods to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.

  13. Compliance:
    Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and safety standards in all cost estimates and construction plans.

  14. Team Collaboration:
    Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment between the estimate and project execution.

  15. Post-Project Evaluation:
    Conduct post-project evaluations to compare estimated costs with actual costs and identify areas for improvement in future estimates.

  16. Cost Control:
    Assist in cost control efforts during construction to minimize deviations from the budget.

  17. Vendor and Supplier Relationships:
    Maintain positive relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry contacts to foster long-term partnerships and access to competitive pricing.

  18. Reporting:
    Prepare and present regular reports on cost estimation progress and results to senior management and project teams.

Profile

  1. Education and
    Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field preferred.
    • Proven experience as an estimator in the construction industry, with a strong track record of accurately estimating project costs.
  2. Construction Knowledge:

    • Comprehensive understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  3. Estimation Software:

    • Proficiency in construction estimation software and tools, such as Procore, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or equivalent platforms.
  4. Mathematical Skills:

    • Strong mathematical and analytical skills to calculate costs, quantities, and measurements accurately.
  5. Attention to Detail:

    • Exceptional attention to detail to ensure precise and comprehensive cost assessments.
  6. Communication Skills:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with team members, subcontractors, and suppliers.
    • Ability to prepare and present clear and concise estimates to clients and stakeholders.
  7. Negotiation Skills:

    • Negotiation skills to secure competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers while maintaining quality standards.
  8. Time Management:

    • Effective time management and organizational abilities to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  9. Cost Analysis:

    • Proficiency in analyzing cost data and historical project data to refine estimation accuracy.
  10. Industry Knowledge:

    • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulations, and pricing fluctuations to make informed cost projections.
  11. Team Player:

    • Ability to work collaboratively within a project team and contribute to the success of the general contractor's projects.
  12. Problem Solving:

    • Strong problem-solving skills to address unexpected challenges during the estimation process.
  13. Financial Acumen:

    • Understanding of financial principles and the ability to create budgets and cost reports.
  14. Ethics and Integrity:

    • Maintain a high level of professional ethics and integrity in all business dealings.
  15. Certification:

    • Optional, but a relevant certification, such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar, is a plus.
